Dr. Maislos is able to remove the whole kidney or part of the kidney as needed using a pure laparoscopic approach. Other options include laparoscopic cryoablation where he exposes the lesion laparoscopically and then freezes it using ultrasound guidance. In addition, he also offers radiofrequency ablation of renal lesions to select patients.
Dr. Maislos has been trained to perform pure laparoscopic surgery as opposed to other techniques which involve making a sizeable incision to place a hand in the patient called hand assisted laparoscopic surgery. Pure laparoscopic surgery offers the benefits of not having to make this large incision, namely- less post operative pain and much less post operative scarring.
